Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS)- It is non-invasive cancer that originates in the milk duct of the females. This type of cancer does not spread through metastasis and hence isn't life-threatening. Yet it is better to get the problem treated if you are diagnosed with it. Even after the treatment, there are about 30 per cent chances of cancer recurring back.

Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)- Also known as infiltrating ductal carcinoma, it is the most common type of breast cancer and accounts for nearly 80 per cent cases of all reported breast cancers. As the name suggests cancer has a tendency to invade the nearby breast tissue. Cancer originates in the milk duct just like ductal carcinoma but eventually breaks through its wall and damages nearby tissue. It is further divided into the following types, tubular carcinoma of the breast, medullary carcinoma of the breast, mucinous carcinoma of the breast, papillary carcinoma of the breast and cribriform carcinoma of the breast.

Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC)- Commonly known as infiltrating lobular carcinoma, it is the second most common type of breast cancer that originates in the milk-producing ducts of the breast. Even it has a tendency of spreading to and damaging the surrounding breast tissue and can prove to be very fatal if not treated on time.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer- Although quite rare, it is one of the most aggressive types of breast cancer. Instead of lump formation, it is marked by swelling and redness in the whole breast and can be very painful. Cancer grows at a very fast rate and the patient's condition can deteriorate within a few days or even a few hours.

Apart from all these types of breast cancer, there are certain other types as well, these include lobular carcinoma In Situ (LCIS), molecular subtypes of Breast Cancer, Paget's disease of the nipple, phyllodes tumours of the breast and metastatic breast cancer
