Cryo - Preservation prior to Cancer treatment
- Cancer treatments can harm your fertility and have a major impact on your ability to have children. This also largely depends on the type and stage of cancer, as well as your age at the time of cancer treatment.
- At times, male fertility can be harmed due to surgical removal of testicles. Or sperm quality and quantity can get affected during chemotherapy and radiation.
- To tackle this problem, a cancer patient can take a few steps at the onset of the treatment. One can opt for embryo cryopreservation or oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing). During this, you will receive treatment using synthetic hormones and get your eggs harvested. These unfertilized eggs can then be frozen and can be used later in future.
- If you are planning cancer treatment and want to preserve your fertility, it is best to speak to your doctor/oncologist prior to the treatment.
